Baumer hhs has a Stronghold in Tobacco Industry
High Speed Gluing and Verification can Improve Quality and Save on Downtime and Waste Wherever you buy cigarettes on this planet, there is hardly one brand where Baumer hhs from Germany is not involved at all. The specialist for high speed gluing and verification for making filters, hingelid packs, soft packs, pouch packs, tax stamps, cartons and over wrapping, on machines from all leading suppliers. Our range of products covers both, hot-melt and cold adhesive equipment, including pumps, melters, guns, controllers and verification sensors. Rather than selling components, Baumer hhs have developed systems, bespoken for this industry.
Filter Gluing (water-based adhesives and verification)
Cold glue verification is of increasing importance in the making of cigarette filters. While the filter paper is glued, mostly with hot-melt, the filter itself is stuck to the surrounding paper by cold glue. This process is performed at machine speeds of 500m/min or higher and requires glue verification because the cost of errors would be too high. Machine-stops and loosely compacted filters can not be accepted. Baumer hhs ULT-300 sensors detect glue errors before they can cause problems.
Tax stamp gluing and verification
Verification is vital where missing glue would lead to massive waste and increase in costs. The tax stamp on cigarette packs derives its value from local taxation and can be a valuable part of the pack. Correct gluing gets important from several points of view. On the one hand the paper itself has a value since it is bought with the smoking tax from the authorities. Tax is paid, no matter whether it is sticking on a cigarette pack or being wasted by machine fault. On the other hand gluing needs to ensure, that the stamp is ruptured by opening of the pack. Glue detection sensors verify if the glue is present instantly after application with the gun and before the strip is placed. In case of irregularities most manufacturers eject single packs or stop the feeder when glue is missing in succession.
Automatic verification of gluing does a great deal to improve the end product quality and reduces downtime and waste at the same time. PDF
