Baumer hhs presents new applications for the Xtend system at the IPEX

In addition to the core business of gluing, the German-based company has been for years developing industry-specific quality assurance systems, namely glue monitoring, code and camera technology and product tracking systems. The Xtend system unites these functions on a central operator touch screen.

Many machine owners tend to retrofit their plants with individual isolated solutions as the application demands it. For example one system to read code with a separate camera vision system and finally a detached tracking system for ejection. In the end the machine has to be operated from many different operator screens, which becomes barely understandable and requires numerous teaching drives for each job change. Since the introduction of the first Xtend system, Baumer hhs has attached importance to modular extension, which leaves room for future upgrade requirements.
At the IPEX 2010, Baumer hhs is showing what the latest generation of Xtend² can do across many application disciplines. There are solutions available to detect skewed, double fed and unprinted products, including the comparison of print, position and presence monitoring of labels, matrix code reading and numerous other checks. Baumer hhs also offer pure quality assurance solutions without gluing. All quality assurance functions are monitored by a central tracking and ejection system that produces detailed error reporting in a form of data collection that can either be viewed in real time from the operator touch screen or transferred to a local PC for distribution via the company internal network. In addition the operator has a touch screen with a unified menu to do the job set up for all the functions on the Xtend², significantly reducing both, set up time and the production of waste.
For the manufacturing of transparent packaging, Baumer hhs has revised its systems and introduced the PUR bag melters. These hot melt glue application systems can also be integrated completely in the Xtend series, which then can be operated centrally from the large touch screen.
Baumer hhs have been supplying the corrugated industry for a number of years and have taken the production of corrugated cardboard boxes to a new level. The second-generation system, presented at the IPEX, will also unite the application and monitoring of glue all in one system including the implementation of camera technology. The large central touch screen is already part of the
