New Xtend²-System by Baumer hhs

Thanks to camera-detection less downtime and less waste

Gluing and quality assurance specialist Baumer hhs is conquering the folding carton market with the completely revised Xtend² series, a modular, integrated system for controlling the application of glue and for quality assurance. When Xtend1 was introduced at drupa in 2004 it was the first system to integrate gluing and quality assurance in one device. The further development of the globally successful series relies consistently on simple operation close to the processes of print finishing and folding carton production. Product changes are done in 2 easy steps.
Data-matrix codes, text recognition, placement of labels or correct folding: Xtend² checks virtually everything concerned with the quality of the end product. The inclusion of new sensors and cameras opens up new areas of application. New internal detection of connected sensors reduces setup times substantially and new digital communication with cold glue pumps and hot glue melting devices bundles all information centrally. Information then can be spread to multi-terminals and even allows remote diagnosis.
"See and be seen" - The transliteration of Baumer hhs to describe that the Xtend² system on one hand recognises erroneous products from the stream and on the other hand checks its own sensors. This reduces setup time for the operator and means process safety.
The whole system stands for less downtime and less waste. Intelligent sensors leave nothing to chance and create total security from feeder to end customer. Operators can concentrate with what's essential - Xtend² keeps the machine running. "The same security that the end customers demand from our customers has been integrated in the system so that in addition to the ejector, which discharges faulty products, the system monitors not only the cartons being run but the XTS2 system monitors itself to insure everything is in perfect alignment", reports Joe Madren, President, Baumer hhs Corp.
To monitor complex products with a multitude of glue lines and other quality attributes sensors are not sufficient any more. Camera technology as part of the Xtend² system with a camera and a screen - can monitor various tasks at the same time: e.g. 8 and more glue lines, correct folding, glue flap length, label position, character recognition, code reading, foil window and many more. When you need to monitor product quality at several places, e.g. before and after folding a flap, you can connect up to 3 cameras to one system. If required, the system can substantiate all events on any PC in a network by means of data processing and statistics.
